The Advanced Architecture Laboratory (AAL) at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), directed by Professor Thomas Schroepfer, investigates the increasingly complex relationship between design and technology in architecture. Its research and design projects relate to advances in environmental strategies, building structure and form, performance and energy, computer simulation and modelling, digital fabrication and building processes.

AAL has received prestigious awards and recognitions including The Chicago Athenaeum and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies International Architecture Award; the Singapore President*s Design Award, Singapore’s highest honour accorded to designers and designs across all disciplines; the German Design Award, and the World Architecture Festival Award. AAL’s projects have been exhibited at important national and international venues including the Shenzhen Biennale of Urbanism and Architecture, the Venice Biennale, and The Chicago Athenaeum of Architecture and Design, and have been covered by a variety of media including The Straits Times, Neue Zürcher Zeitung, The New York Times, The Business Times, Channel NewsAsia, German National Television, Swiss Radio and Television, ArchDaily, designboom, and dezeen.
